Ceramic tiles are manufactured by combining clay with sand and other natural materials and firing it in a kiln. When combined with glazing and other treatments, the results are wide-ranging and spectacular! • Smalti — These are smaller tiles that are often textured and colorful.
• Fused — Fused tiles are made by firing them in a furnace and adding color to the underside.
• Sintered — The glass powder is pressed into dies and fired to fuse the particles. Different colors are achieved by adding color before or after the firing process.
• Cast — Pieces of glass are placed in a mold and heated until they melt and become a single piece.

When you choose glass tiles, you have two popular treatments available.

• Slumped — The glass has a textured finish because it has been melted into molds with relief textures in them.
• Etched — A thin, translucent layer is applied to the surface of the tile and treated to give it a cloudy or matte finish. The etching can be damaged, so we recommend that these tiles be used for wall applications rather than areas where people will walk on them.
